Boy Killed In Skiing Accident At Mount Southington

An 8-year-old boy was killed from injuries sustained during a skiing accident in the area.

Logan Murphy Mengold, the son of Jason and Kristen (Murphy) Mengold, died on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Yale-New Haven Hospital following injuries sustained in the accident on Feb. 19 at the Mount Southington ski area, his obituary said.

Southington Police did not offer details of the accident. 

According to his obituary, Logan, born in Danbury, on June 12, 2010,  was a kind and caring boy who got along with everyone - young and old, boys and girls alike. 

"He had piercing green eyes and a smile that could light up a room," the notice said.

He was also a natural athlete and enjoyed playing numerous sports including running and playing with Pomperaug Lacrosse, U9 Pomperaug Soccer travel team and recently started playing basketball. He was a competitive swimmer for the Panther Aquatic Club and his favorite and best strokes were freestyle and butterfly. 

Logan also loved surfing and had a passion for music, good food, including sushi and chocolate and playing video games.

In addition to his parents and brother, Grayson Mengold, Logan is survived by his grandparents: Larry Murphy of Somerville, MA, George Mengold of Southbury and Arva Mengold of Ellington; his aunts and uncles: Kim and Tim Baker of Somerville, MA, Jessica and Edward Dunn of Tolland; his great-great-aunt Helen Panis and his extended family of great-aunts, uncles and cousins. 

A service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
